Financial Associate Intern

Department: Investments
Office: Onsite Tuesday – Thursday; digital Monday and Friday
Location: Philadelphia, PA

The role:

The Financial Associate Intern reports to the Private Equity Managing Director (Global Asset Class Head) for summer 2024 and supports investment activities including the sourcing of investment opportunities, manager due diligence, operational due diligence with existing and prospective managers, investment manager assessments, portfolio management, and with the preparation of investment memoranda. The Intern is involved with assessing the merits of co-investments opportunities presented to the Board of Pensions from various private equity managers.

What you will do:

  • Engage in private equity sector-focused research including buyout, venture capital, growth equity, secondaries, and specific co-investments opportunities within asset classes.
  • Work alongside the Vice President to review Private Placement Memorandums, investment presentations, financial statements, investment returns, and conduct reference calls and participate in manager meetings both in office and virtually. Present ideas and recommendations to the Vice President and, in select situations, the Executive Vice President, Investments.
  • Analyze and monitor the performance of the Board’s existing investment managers and underlying portfolio companies, prepare for, and participate in, meetings with assigned managers, and conduct on-going due diligence alongside the Investment team.
  • Prepare Investment evaluation memoranda.
  • Attend quarterly and annual update meetings.
  • Prepare portfolio monitoring reports and support senior investment professionals in portfolio management and transaction analysis & support.
  • Prepare financial analyses and financial models in Excel.
  • Form an independent opinion about the attractiveness of a sector, fund, or co-investment opportunity and present and defend that position in a team environment and at an Investment Committee Board meeting.

What you need to succeed in the role:

  • A bachelor’s degree or master’s of finance, master’s of business or equivalent degree completed by Spring 2025 with a desired minimum GPA of 3.45 and a SAT score of 2000 or above.
  • Required majors: Finance, Accounting, International Business, (Applied) Mathematics, Economics, Applied and/or Financial Economics, Statistics and/or Decision Sciences.
  • Prior work experience in a corporate finance and/or financial services setting desired.
  • Significant interest in corporate finance, financial markets, and alternative assets.
  • Ability to adhere to the highest ethical standards and to demonstrate maturity, reliability, and attentiveness to detail required.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • A positive, professional demeanor, an outgoing personality, and a high level of personal initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills and deadline orientation.
  • Strong self-motivation and an ability to multi-tasking in a fast paced, transaction orientated environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday at the 2000 Market Street office in Philadelphia.
